Why choose Katahdins?
Hair Breed
Their hair coat sheds naturally every spring and grows thick before winter ensuring their adaptability to hot and cold seasons here in the mid-Western states of the USA.
Mothering
Our ewes have proved to be very good mothers, caring for their lambs until weaning time.
Easy to handle
They are medium sized, hornless, and docile, making them much easier to handle than other breeds. We highly recommend sheep over cattle if you do not have the funds to purchase high cost handling equipment for cattle.
Meat Breed
The meat is mild, juicy, and delicious. Full grown adults put on plentiful fat when raised on grass alone!
Thrive on grass
Our sheep are raised on grass in warm months and hay in winter months. If ewes require extra supplementation while lactating, we offer them organic alfalfa pellets. No grains needed!
Parasite Resistance
They are known to have good parasite resistance, but we still recommend to use rotational grazing for optimal avoidance of parasites.
